A shading coil or shading ring (Also called Frager spire or Frager coil) is a single (or a few) plow of electric conductor (usually copper or aluminum) located in the face of the magnet assembly or armature of an alternating current solenoid. The alternating electric current in the energized primary coil induces an alternating electric current in the shading coil. This induced current creates an auxiliary magnetic flux which is ninety degrees out of stage from the magnetic flux created by the primary coil.[1]
Frager spire or shading coil's purpose is to provide sizeable phase-shifted magnetic field (in bluish) to go on the contactor on when the main coil flux (in red) passes through zero, avoiding unwanted chatter[two] and mechanical destruction of the magnet and power contacts. .
Considering of the ninety degree stage difference between the current in the shading whorl and the electric current in the primary curlicue, the shading coil maintains a magnetic flux and hence a force between the armature and the assembly while the electric current in the chief coil crosses zero. Without this shading band, the armature would tend to open each time the main flux goes through zero and create noise, oestrus and mechanical amercement on the magnet faces (east.grand. reducing the bouncing[three] of relay or power contacts and the chatter)[iv]
Shaded-pole Ac motors [edit]
A shaded pole motor is an AC single phase induction motor. It includes an auxiliary winding equanimous of a copper band chosen a shading band (or shading coil with more than i turn).[5]
The auxiliary winding produces a secondary magnetic flux which, along with the flux from the primary gyre, forms a rotating magnetic field suitable for applying torque to and rotating the rotor.[6] These devices are typically used equally depression-price motors for microwave oven fans.
